This round Japanese tray by Yamanaka Lacquerware features a lacquer technique called "Negoro-Nuri", a method of lacquering by which a black lacquer underneath the red lacquer is visible. The more you use it, the more black lacquer you can see, and the more vintage taste you get. It emphasizes the beautiful grain of wood and conveys the warmth of natural wood.

It is the right size to hold one-plate meal, and can also be set with tea or sake utensils to create a cohesive and beautiful looking.
It also great as a tray for home decorative items such as flower vase, photo frame, and fruits stand.

Yamanaka lacquerware is produced in the Yamanaka Onsen area of Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, and has a history of about 400 years.
The traditional techniques of Yamanaka lacquerware were highly evaluated and became known throughout Japan, despite a period of temporary interruption.
It is characterized by the use of wood grain patterns to express a natural texture, and is made with great attention to detail.
It was designated as a traditional craft by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry in 1975.
