Description

This ladle is handmade by Yamanaka Lacquerware craftsmen. Made by hollowing out a piece of wood, it has a beautiful form with no joints and is firm and comfortable to hold.

It comes with a leather strap for convenient storage in the kitchen.

It is finished by a lacquering technique called "Negoro," in which black lacquer is applied, and vermilion lacquer is applied over the lacquer. The name Negoro comes from its similarity to the texture of Negoro lacquer, which was produced by the monks of Negoro Temple in Wakayama Prefecture.

It can be used for cooking and serving various soups, such as miso soup and stew. Especially when serving nabe dishes, the beautiful design makes it suitable to be placed on the table.

Lacquerware

Japanese lacquerware, also called shikki in Japanese, is a proud handicraft with a long history dating back to 5,000 BCE, and traditional methods are still followed today. Durable, light, antibacterial, and robust enough to endure for more than one hundred years, Japanese lacquerware is not only beautiful, but also highly functional.

In addition to the fine Japanese lacquerware found in antique and vintage pieces, there is also contemporary Japanese lacquerware suitable for modern life made by artisans who continue to improve their skills and pass on tradition today.
