Pink Kannyu Katakuchi Sake Carafe

This katakuchi sake carafe showcases a delicate kannyu "crackle" pattern—naturally formed fine cracks on the glaze surface during firing. By carefully balancing the clay and glaze, intricate crackles emerge on the surface. The soft pink hue is achieved using Zoho Kiln's signature red pigment, created through three years of meticulous grinding. The fine pigment seeps into every crevice of the kannyu, and after wiping, it leaves behind a gentle, pale pink finish.
Elegant yet functional, this carafe is perfect for serving cold sake or pouring sauces, bringing subtle artistry to everyday moments. Its graceful form also makes it ideal for presenting side dishes like aemono, dressed salads.

Maker / Brand
Zoho Kiln, located in Tajimi City, Gifu Prefecture, is a renowned producer of Mino ware. While their designs are inspired by seasonal flowers and traditional patterns, they also focus on the practical beauty of their pieces, ensuring ease of use and graceful presentation.
Zoho Kiln places particular importance on bengara, the distinctive red pigment used in their akae, or overglaze red enamel, designs. The rich red hue that adorns their pottery deepens in character and becomes even more beautiful with time and use, enhancing the aesthetic experience.
Origin
Crafted in the Tono region of Gifu Prefecture, Mino ware is celebrated for its rich heritage and versatility within Japanese dinnerware.
A defining feature of Mino ware is its remarkable variety. Unlike many other Japanese pottery that adheres to a singular style, Mino ware boasts more than fifteen different styles, each with its unique charm developed over centuries. This region now accounts for over fifty percent of Japan's ceramic production, highlighting its unrivaled popularity.
In recognition of its cultural significance, Mino ware was designated as a traditional craft in 1978 by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (now the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry). Mino ware continues to enchant with its blend of historical depth and contemporary relevance, truly embodying a high standard of craftsmanship.
