Origin
Crafted in the Tono region of Gifu Prefecture, Mino ware is celebrated for its rich heritage and versatility within Japanese dinnerware.
A defining feature of Mino ware is its remarkable variety. Unlike many other Japanese pottery that adheres to a singular style, Mino ware boasts more than fifteen different styles, each with its unique charm developed over centuries. This region now accounts for over fifty percent of Japan's ceramic production, highlighting its unrivaled popularity.
In recognition of its cultural significance, Mino ware was designated as a traditional craft in 1978 by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (now the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry). Mino ware continues to enchant with its blend of historical depth and contemporary relevance, truly embodying a high standard of craftsmanship.

Kobachi Small Bowls
Kobachi, literally “small bowls” in Japanese, are designed for serving appetizers and side dishes. Deeper than a small plate but smaller than a main course or ramen bowl, kobachi are just the right size for light stews and simmered vegetables. Incorporating one or several kobachi bowls into a table setting and arranging dishes of different sizes and colors lends your meal an authentic Japanese atmosphere.
This category includes bowls with diameters under 12.9 cm (5.1 in).

Lovely, versatile bowls
These bowls were an excellent addition to my small collection of Japanese tableware. They are perfect for rice bowls, but also hold soup or salad for a more Westernized meal. As always, the service and packaging from Musabi Kiln was excellent

A happy, expansive blue
It was the color of the small bowls that attracted me. and the color remains the most attractive feature. I'm not so fond of the feel of the surface, which is kind of resinous and plasticky. But they serve their purpose beautifully, which is the most important point, in their happy, cloud-free, pale morning blue.

beautiful color
This is a beautiful bowl. The outside is a light silver gray color and the blue inside is a perfect complement to that. I love that the color is not solid but has a textured appearance.
