Hundreds of years of skill and technique are carefully crafted in this hand-size small bowl.

This is an item from the Arita Porcelain Lab's signature series called Japan Blue.

While preserving the traditional style of Arita Ware, the blue tones are arranged in a modern way, and each piece is individually brushed by craftsmen to create an incomparable elegance. Many of the designs are arranged with traditional auspicious designs, making the tableware suitable for the modern dining scene.

The sides of the bowl are shaped like the petals of a flower giving the bowl an elegant look. Items with distinctive curves such as this bowl are made by first making a base by pressure casting and then carved by skilled craftsman to give the final refined touch.

The inside is decorated with traditional Japanese motifs. The bamboos represent strength, the Japanese pampas grass represent vitality and the peonies are meant to cast off evil spirits. This auspicious pattern is frequently seen on Arita ware and is given a contemporary  makeover with the different shades of blue and silver.

This bowl would look great on a smooth blue dining cloth. You can use it to plate Japanese style appetizers or a small salad. Upgrade a scoop of vanilla ice cream using this delicately designed bowl for dessert.

ABOUT ARITA WARE

Arita Ware, made in the town of Arita in Saga Prefecture, is the oldest porcelain production area in Japan's history. Arita porcelain is characterized by its translucent white porcelain surface, dyeing using "Gosu" (indigo pigment), and gorgeous red painting using glassy overglaze pigments (red, green, yellow, purple, and blue). The pottery is highly durable and is produced in a wide variety of styles, from fine art to daily necessities. It was exported to Europe, where it was prized as fine art and called "white gold".

Arita Ware is also a prestigious brand that is admired by ceramicists from other regions as a representative porcelain production area.

Beautiful bowl

I recently bought the Arita Japan Blue Old Imari Floral Pattern Plate which I thought was beautiful so I got this kobachi bowl to go with it. I know I don’t have to match pieces for Japanese meals but they do look gorgeous together. And of course it is lovely to use on its own or with differently patterned dishes. I am glad I got it.
