These beautifully crafted Yamanaka Lacquerware children's soup bowls are wonderful additions to the table when enjoying a meal with children.

These soup bowls come in four different designs of a bunny blowing bubbles, a friendly elephant, a smiling lion and a happy cat. All the drawings on the plates are hand drawn with care, giving a simple yet warm expression to all the animal designs.

The material used for these children's soup bowls is cherry wood. Cherry wood is slightly harder and has finer grains compared to other wood materials. The fine and dense grains of cherry wood make it perfect to be used for a soup bowl which surfaces are exposed to liquid for longer periods of time than plates or kobachi bowls.

Enjoy the high quality craftsmanship of Yamanaka Lacquerware's technique of "Suri-urushi" which enhance the beauty of the wood grains of these bowls.  "Suri-urushi" is where multiple layers of raw lacquer are rubbed into a wooden surface to create a transparent shiny coat.

The rim is thinly shaved and well-rounded for a comfortable touch to the mouth. The shape of the bowl is designed to fit nicely in small hands.

Match these soup bowls with plates and spoons with the same design to make a cute tableware set for your children or as a gift set.

about yamanaka lacquerware

Yamanaka lacquerware is produced in the Yamanaka Onsen area of Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, and has a history of about 400 years.
The traditional techniques of Yamanaka lacquerware were highly evaluated and became known throughout Japan, despite a period of temporary interruption.
It is characterized by the use of wood grain patterns to express a natural texture, and is made with great attention to detail.
It was designated as a traditional craft by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry in 1975.
