The pattern of shells is a symbol of happiness for married couples in Japan.
During the Heian period (794-1185), a game called “Kai-Awase" was popular in Japan. The object of the game was to find a pair of clams decorated with gold leaf. The game is similar to the card game 'Concentration'. This game is based on the fact that bivalve shells can only be combined with the same shell.
For this reason, the pattern of shells has come to symbolize the hope of meeting one's destiny.
This Furoshiki is made by a Japanese traditional weaving technique called "Chirimen", which gives it a unique texture with an uneven surface.
It is a perfect design for wrapping gifts for your loved ones or arranging into bags.
