Taishi Kiln

Taishi Kiln, founded in 2011 in Nonoichi City, Ishikawa Prefecture by Kutani ware artist Yamachika Yasushi, was established to express his unique artistic vision. As the fourth generation of Seizan Kiln potters, Yamachika incorporates traditional iro-e (overglaze polychrome enamel) techniques passed down through his family, while focusing on modern designs and practicality for everyday use.

While Kutani ware is renowned for its vibrant colors, Taishi Kiln emphasizes that only by mastering traditional techniques can one capture the true charm of iro-e and ultimately develop a unique Kutani style.

Taishi Kiln believes that while many new styles of Kutani ware are emerging, especially among younger artists, the number of craftsmen skilled in traditional color painting techniques is decreasing. With this in mind, they work daily with a commitment to preserving Kutani tradition and emphasizing color painting.

This respect for tradition is also reflected in their designs, which specialize in classic Kutani techniques such as ao-kutani overglaze enameling, hanazume, and aochibu. Their artisans continually research to create tableware that fits modern dining needs.
