A Lucky Cat in black Ninja costume by Kakinuma Ningyo. Every detail has been carefully considered, including gold bells, bracelets, and a sword that can actually be pulled out and inserted, making it a unique piece. It comes with a red cushion to make it look more attractive when displayed.

The black fabric pattern used is called "Kumotatewaku" and depicts clouds rising into the sky. It is a pattern of good omen, meaning "rising spirits," and is used in the costumes of male members of the royal family as a noble pattern.

Edo Kimekomi dolls are Japanese traditional dolls made to look as if they are dressed in costumes by embedding the ends of the fabric in grooves carved into the body.

They were originally created in Kyoto in the late 1740s, and with the subsequent development of Edo, doll makers moved from Kyoto and spread their techniques. Today, they are still made by hand in the traditional way, and are designated as a traditional craft by the national government.

Kakinuma Ningyo is the manufacturer handling Edo Kimekomi Dolls founded in 1950. While pursuing a variety of original techniques, the studio has been eager to create innovative dolls that match the sense of beauty of the times.

The new Kimekomi Doll, which incorporates popular figures such as Lucky cat and Hello Kitty, is a traditional yet brand-new form, and is attracting renewed attention as a home decor item.
