Description

This rectangular platter features a painting of an angler on a boat with natural landscapes in ko-Kutani (old Kutani) style, one of the remarkable painting styles of Kutani ware.

All painted by hand, the bright colors on the white background create a beautiful contrast. The foot is also painted in green, showing the attention to detail.

The surface is wavy, creating an elegant and serene design that evokes the passage of time as leisurely as the design on the plate.

This platter is perfect for serving sushi, sashimi, grilled fish, or an assortment of appetizers.

Ko-Kutani

Ko-Kutani is one of the oldest styles of Kutani ware, originating in the early Edo period (1603 CE–1868 CE). This style is known for its dynamic yet subtle charm, featuring bold designs in five colors—green, yellow, red, purple and dark blue—known as gosai. Ko-Kutani often depicts nature-inspired motifs like flowers, birds and landscapes. Despite its brief production period, ending in the early 1700s, ko-Kutani remains highly esteemed internationally as one of Japan's major overglaze enamel styles.
