Icchin いっちん
Also known as slip trailing
Icchin is a pen-like tool with a hollow, fine tip used to apply liquid clay or thick paint to ceramic surfaces. The material is dispensed through the tip to create raised lines, dots, or patterns—a technique known as slip trailing or icchin technique.
The liquid dye or clay naturally drips from the tip of the icchin tool rather than being forcefully squeezed out. In the aochibu technique, the icchin is used to place tiny, closely-packed dots with precision. The raised application adds texture and depth to the ceramic surface.
