Sayagata Pattern Placemat S
Estimated Shipping Widget will be displayed here!
This small placemat displays the beauty and versatility of aluminum by combining an artfully designed aluminum mat with a black aluminum base.
The top mat is designed in a sayagata pattern. Sayagata is one of the auspicious patterns that symbolize prosperity and longevity of a family. It is a diagonal overlay of the Sanskrit character for manji (Buddhist cross).
The black base is made of sturdy aluminum with a matte finish. The surface is decorated with shallow random imprints, giving it a marble-like texture.
The top mat and the black base both come with round urethane rubbers on the four corners on the back side to prevent slipping and scratching, and to make them easier to lift from flat surfaces.

Crafts
Metalwork has long been prized for its durability and gorgeous appearance. In Japan, bronze swords and harnesses were made from the Yayoi period (10th century BCE–mid-3rd century CE) based on techniques introduced from China and Korea. With the rise of Buddhism, the construction of temples, Buddhist statues, and ritual implements flourished, and metalworking techniques also advanced. Eventually, a wide variety of products such as tea ceremony utensils, Japanese swords, armor, and ornaments came to be manufactured.
