Arita Porcelain Lab Yazaemon "Old Imari" Sakura Sake Set
Although small in size, one can appreciate the detailed and elegant patterns of the "Old Imari" style crafted on this sake set.
The deep blue comes from the signature technique seen on "Old Imari" pieces called "sometsuke" where a blue and white glaze is the first given to the product.
After the first glaze, the carafe and cups are hand painted with the festive sakura patterns. The gold outlines accentuate the patterns and highlights the fine drawings of the flowers and other detailed designs.
The wide shape of the cup gives a mellow taste to the sake, and the thin and smooth texture of the porcelain will let you enjoy the full flavor of sake with each sip.

Arita Ware, made in the town of Arita in Saga Prefecture, is the oldest porcelain production area in Japan's history. Arita porcelain is characterized by its translucent white porcelain surface, dyeing using "Gosu" (indigo pigment), and gorgeous red painting using glassy overglaze pigments (red, green, yellow, purple, and blue). The pottery is highly durable and is produced in a wide variety of styles, from fine art to daily necessities. It was exported to Europe, where it was prized as fine art and called "white gold".
Arita Ware is also a prestigious brand that is admired by ceramicists from other regions as a representative porcelain production area.
