Kousai Kiln Playful Cat Hasami Small Yunomi Japanese Teacup

JPY ¥6,300

Put a smile on your face using this unique small Yunomi teacup from Kousai Kiln.

This charmingly designed cup is handmade combining the Shigaraki style "Yakishime(high-fired unglazed ceramics)" and traditional "Some-nishiki," a technique where a product is first glazed with white and blue patterns and then is further decorated with detailed hand-painted drawings. Stoneware items are rarely seen in Hasami Ware. Items from Kousai Kiln are popular for their unique style and designs on the rustic texture of stoneware.

The face of the cat in the front and the traditional Japanese patterns in the back are coated with a smooth glaze and the remaining surface retains its coarse and rustic stoneware texture. The cat's ears peek out from the rim of cup and its tail is neatly painted on the backside.

Enjoy the different traditional Japanese patterns also painted on the backside; the hemp leaf pattern in red, the Seigaiha ocean wave pattern in Indigo blue, the Shippou interlocking circular patterns in green and the Jimon(designs used for kimono fabric) pattern in blue.

The rustic stoneware makes this teacup perfect for Japanese green tea, Sencha and brown roasted tea, Hojicha. Children will also enjoy drinking out of this teacup as well with the adorable cat face showing its playful smile.

This teacup can be used by adults as well as children. Group this teacup with the matching rice bowl and plate to make a full set with the "Playful Cat" motif.
