Description

Put a smile on your face using this unique small yunomi teacup from Kousai Kiln. This charmingly designed cup is handmade, combining the Shigaraki-style yakishime (high-fired unglazed ceramics) and traditional somenishiki, a technique where a product is first glazed with white and blue patterns and then further decorated with detailed hand-painted drawings.

Enjoy the different traditional Japanese patterns also painted on the backside: the hemp leaf pattern in red, the seigaiha "wave" pattern in Indigo blue, the shippo interlocking circular patterns in green, and the jimon (designs used for kimono fabric) pattern in blue.

The rustic stoneware makes this teacup perfect for sencha and hojicha. Children will also enjoy drinking out of this teacup as well, with the adorable cat face showing its playful smile.

This teacup can be used by adults as well as children. Group this teacup with the matching rice bowl and plate to make a full set with the Playful Cat motif.

Yunomi Japanese Teacups

Yunomi are a kind of vertical, cylindrical teacup. They are typically used for casual tea times. Because of the large capacity of a yunomi, the area where the tea touches the air is small, so the tea does not get cold easily. They are also suitable for when you want to drink a lot of bancha or hojicha. In sushi restaurants, tea is traditionally served in a yunomi.

Celebrating Cat Day: Cats in Japanese Crafts

Cats are cherished around the world for the comfort they bring, whether they are basking in the sun or soothing us with their unexpected gestures. Also a familiar presence in the world of craft, cats have long been expressed in various forms through the dedicated handwork of artisans.

In celebration of "Cat Day" on February 22 in Japan, we have curated a collection featuring cat-themed plates, mugs, and lucky cat figurines. These tableware pieces add a playfulness to the dining table, while traditional maneki neko bring a sense of auspicious warmth to your living space.
