Description

This large-sized Japanese donburi rice bowl features sakura, or cherry blossoms, framed by dark blue, lattice-like patterns, all rendered in the traditional nishiki-e style. Nishiki-e, meaning "brocade picture," is a multi-colored woodblock print technique that revolutionized ukiyo-e during the Edo period (1603 CE–1868 CE), when most prints were in black and white.

The lid helps keep the food warm and steams the ingredients, ensuring the dish remains flavorful. It also adds a touch of elegance, making it perfect for hosting guests. Without the lid, this bowl is also ideal for serving soba or udon noodles. Its depth allows for larger-than-usual portions or generous toppings.

The bowl is perfect for gyudon, oyakodon, and other donburi dishes. It can also be used to serve noodle dishes like udon or soba. With its depth, it can easily hold generous portions of noodles and plenty of toppings.

Donburi Bowls

Donburi bowls, a quintessential piece of Japanese tableware, are larger, thicker, and deeper than standard rice bowls, making them ideal for serving popular donburi dishes like tendon, oyakodon, and katsudon. Whether it's a rice dish or a soupy creation, these bowls elevate the dining experience.

Their versatility extends to noodle dishes like soba, udon, and ramen. The durability and heat retention of these bowls help keep meals warm while enhancing their flavors.

Peony

Often seen in Japanese art and design, the grand, luxurious peony symbolizes nobility, grace, refined beauty, and more. Introduced to Japan from China during the Heian period (794 CE–1185 CE), a time celebrated for its aesthetic refinement, peonies quickly became popular in the gardens of the aristocracy and were often celebrated in poetry. Blooming in late spring, these flowers display an array of colors, from deep reds and soft purples to vibrant pinks and radiant yellows. Their lush, expressive petals bring a sense of grace and elegance to each piece in this collection, elevating the table with artful beauty.
