Lacquered Chashaku Tea Scoop
Estimated Shipping Widget will be displayed here!
This is a chashaku tea scoop from Yatsuyanagi. A chashaku is a spoon-shaped tea utensil used in the tea ceremony to scoop matcha tea powder into a matcha bowl.
It is one of the most important tea utensils because it is said that it represents the values and personality of the tea ceremony practitioner. The simple, unadorned design allows you to appreciate the beauty of the cherry bark work itself.
It is not suitable for washing in water. To clean, wipe gently with a piece of tissue paper or a soft cloth.
The cherry trees used for Akita cherry bark work are mainly wild cherry trees from the Tohoku region, which grow in a harsh climate and are said to be beautiful and durable.
The cherry bark is carefully peeled off from the trunk and left to dry in the shade for a year or two to remove the moisture. Yatsuyanagi is committed to the preservation of sustainable nature and the coexistence and co-prosperity of nature and traditional crafts. They are also actively involved in planting wild cherry trees on fallow land.

Maker / Brand
Founded in 1876, Yatsuyanagi continues to preserve the rare art of the traditional cherry bark craft known as kabazaiku. Located in Japan's picturesque Kakunodate region, Senboku City, Akita Prefecture, their master artisans blend centuries-old techniques with modern design, meticulously handcrafting each piece to create products that are both functional and beautiful.
From this collection of fine cherry bark crafts, experience the perfect harmony of Japanese tradition and contemporary elegance in your everyday life.

Crafts
Kabazaiku is a craft made in Akita Prefecture, in northern Japan, from the bark of yamazakura, or “Japanese mountain cherry.” The captivating silk or metal-like luster unique to cherry tree bark, combined with its deep color, is used to create pieces of unparalleled beauty. This traditional Japanese craft has a history spanning about 250 years.

Natsume Matcha Containers & Chashaku Tea Scoops
The natsume matcha container and chashaku matcha scoop are essential utensils in the Japanese tea ceremony. The natsume, inspired by the jujube fruit, is elegantly crafted to hold finely ground matcha powder, while a bamboo or lacquer chashaku is used to measure and scoop it with precision.
Our collection features lacquer and glass natsume matcha containers, along with bamboo and lacquer-finished chashaku tea scoops. The designs range from seigaiha wave patterns and nature-inspired motifs to timeless traditional styles. Select the perfect matcha tea container that will allow you to introduce a personal touch of sophistication to your tea ceremonies or personal matcha tea moments.

Woodcrafts
In Japan, 70% of the land is covered with forests, and there are said to be as many as 200 species of trees, including coniferous trees such as cedar and cypress, and broad-leaved trees such as zelkova, chestnut, and horse chestnut, that are used for construction and woodworking. Japanese wood crafts are made by making the most of the characteristics of the wood from each production area. For example, bamboo crafts in Kyushu, Japanese cypress products in Gifu, and cedar products in Akita are famous.
