kohiki 粉引
Kohiki is a ceramic technique in which a white slip (kesho-do) is applied over the clay body and then covered with a transparent glaze, giving a three-layer structure of body, slip, and glaze. The slip produces the soft, warm white surface characteristic of kohiki, with subtle variation arising from firing method and materials.
The white slip layer creates subtle variations in tone and pattern across the surface. The soft white color can be combined with other glazes to create contrast.
