Description

This charming Tobe ware Japanese rice bowl features a beautiful flower in a gentle light blue on the inside and a soft green on the outside.

The subtle colors decorate the blooming flowers painted on a white porcelain canvas. Small dots painted in gold are scattered, adding a discreet accent to the overall design.

Higashi Kiln employs a unique technique called washi-zome. Colors and designs are added to the unglazed surfaces using Japanese washi paper. This technique adds a watercolor-like softness to the floral patterns which creates a pleasant atmosphere on a table.

This rice bowl fits well in one hand and is easy to hold. You can enjoy the detailed texture of the washi-zome upclose as you savor hot rice with this bowl.

Rice Bowls

Rice bowls are indispensable tableware for the Japanese dining table. Since they are used so often for Japanese food, many people are particular about them. It is important to choose one that is not only beautiful to look at, but is also the right size for your hand and easy to hold.

We recommend that you get a dedicated rice bowl for each member of your family. It's also a good idea to have a few available for different occasions, in varying colors and patterns that match the season and table setting.

Cool Off With Shades of Blue

Bring Japanese hues into your space this summer with tableware and decor in shades of blue. Featuring minimalist geometric patterns, modern styles, and intricately painted designs, the items in this collection are sure to introduce a little extra zing to your late-summer table.

One of the most classic Japanese blues is cobalt: a rich, bold color that works as well as a statement piece as it does as a backdrop for food or a canvas for detail. You will often find cobalt blues contrasted with pure white, a timeless pairing known in Japanese as sometsuke. Another favorite is navy blue, a sophisticated color seen throughout Japanese art. Adding navy is a great way to ground a table. Last but not least is mizu-iro, literally “water blue,” a pale aqua that suggests the refreshing coolness of the ocean.

So, embrace the rich palette of blue and rejuvenate your final weeks of summer.
