This matcha bowl is artfully shaped like a lotus leaf, its interior and exterior adorned with finely painted lotus blossoms and leaves. Perched on the rim is an adorable three-dimensional frog, as if eager to sample the delicious tea within. Subtle gold accents trace the design, lending an extra touch of refined elegance.
The frog motif not only evokes a sense of seasonality but also carries auspicious meaning in Japanese wordplay: the word for frog, kaeru, echoes wishes for safe returns, renewed youth, the return of good fortune, and even financial abundance.
With its lighthearted and endearing motifs, this tea bowl is perfect for preparing matcha. A wonderful gift for those interested in the tradition of the Japanese tea ceremony or chado, its size is ideal for cradling with both hands, allowing the gentle warmth of the matcha to seep through the bowl into your palms gradually.

Maker / Brand
At the foot of Kyoto's Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, Tanaka Toubou is the kiln of artisans Tanaka Nobuo and Tanaka Michiko. In operation for 35 years, they specialize in creating unique tea ceremony utensils and daily-use tableware.
Nobuo principally creates glazed ware with a black tenmoku glaze that includes at least five percent iron. Meanwhile, Michiko's work captures the essence of each season along with gentle depictions of plants and animals, creating an emotional connection to those who admire them.
