These exquisitely hand-painted chopsticks from Matsukan’s Crystal series are a vivid portrayal of the enigmatic colors of spring and autumn. Set alongside are two Hasami ware chopstick rests in pale yellow and pastel green.

Melding the delicate green of budding leaves with the deep brown of sturdy trees, this spring-inspired pair paints a scene reminiscent of a blooming mountainside. In contrast, the autumn pair captures the essence of the season with a spectrum of colors that evoke the brilliance of fall leaves. 

The Crystal series chopsticks feature the distinctive fude-gaki technique, an inventive brush-painting method developed by master craftsman Matoba Masayoshi of Matsukan. At present, his brush-painting technique flourishes in the hands of the next-generation artisan, Fujii Yuya, who produces countless captivating pieces.
