Aote 青手

青 blue/green · 手 hand/style

Aote is a style of overglaze enamel decoration originating in ko-Kutani that excludes red from Kutani's five overglaze enamel colors. Instead, it uses three or four of the remaining colors—typically green, yellow, purple, and navy—across much of the surface.

In aote, vivaciously colored pigments adorn the ware with a variety of colors, leaving virtually no canvas untouched. The colors are bound by bold, black contour lines that define each element of the design.
