Kominka 古民家

古 old · 民 people/folk · 家 house

Kominka refers to old Japanese-style houses built with traditional techniques. These structures can be approximately 90 to 100 years old and represent traditional Japanese residential architecture.

Kominka are built using historical construction methods. Some have been renovated by architects trained in traditional carpentry techniques such as sukiya style. These houses can accommodate both traditional Japanese elements and Western furnishings.
