Also known as white slip

Shiro-gesho is a white slip application technique used in Japanese ceramics. It is applied during the leather-hard stage of forming, after initial shaping is complete but before the piece is fully dried.

The white slip is applied to the ceramic surface while the clay is still leather-hard, creating a white coating that becomes part of the piece's decorative surface treatment.
