Key points of this table setting
1. A Cozy Autumn Atmosphere with Donabe and Delicacies
Otsukimi, a cherished custom that honors the full moon, is a celebration closely tied to the Mid-Autumn Festival. This custom was introduced to Japan from China during the Nara period (710 CE–794 CE). Beneath the soft glow of the autumn sky, loved ones gather to share seasonal delicacies, such as tsukimi dango and other delicious foods, while savoring the peaceful ambiance of the evening.
Autumn is a season of vibrant colors and abundant harvests. For this table setting, we've selected a variety of fresh seasonal vegetables and unique treats. The delicious dishes, paired with Shigaraki ware plates from Homeland, feature delicate variations of blue. Together, they create a warm and tranquil atmosphere.
Fukiyose rice, prepared in this stylish donabe rice cooker, is a dish that echoes the colorful scene of autumn leaves and fruits blown together by a cool wind. The exceptional performance of the donabe enhances the umami of the rice, sweet potatoes, mushrooms, and ginkgo nuts, perfectly blending them into a harmonious whole.
These special treats are tsukimi dango or moon-viewing rice dumplings. Crafted to resemble the moon, they come in unique regional variations. It is a cherished tradition to offer tsukimi dango to express gratitude for a bountiful harvest and to pray for abundance in the coming season.
Paired with the Homeland Aohagi Shigaraki Ware Plate (9.5 in), you and your guests can enjoy the tranquility of a night bathed in soft light.
The Kiyomizu ware plate set is crafted by artisans using gosu, a cobalt blue glaze, with delicate brushstrokes to depict traditional Kyoto vegetables. A gradient indigo blue perfectly complements the rustic autumn atmosphere.
Additionally, the maple leaf-shaped Kyo ware chopstick rest set enriches the fall theme, offering a nod to the season's beauty.
2. Serene Blue Shades From Homeland
The blue hues of Homeland aohagi Shigaraki ware plates range from the soft light of a clear sky to the deep navy of night. These plates are versatile, complementing a variety of dishes while highlighting the ingredients' unique characteristics, and they add an elegant touch to any table setting.
The blue dinnerware pieces serve as a perfect canvas, showcasing the textures of plump grapes, tender figs, richly sauced eggplant dishes, and crispy kushikatsu—skewered and deep-fried delights.
For savory and richly flavored nimono, or stewed dishes, the deep plate is an excellent choice. Its wide, smooth rim adds both practicality and a touch of sophisticated design to your table setting.
