Mokubei 木米
Mokubei is a revival-period Kutani style established at the Kasugayama kiln under the guidance of the painter Aoki Mokubei. Its characteristic look covers the whole surface in red, with Chinese-style figures painted mainly in the five Kutani colors.
Works are designed in a harmonious manner, with entire vermillion-painted canvases filled with paintings of people, white elephants, and children. The colorful Kutani paintings contrast against the red base color.
