Ginsai 銀彩

銀 silver · 彩 color/decoration

Ginsai is a Kutani technique in which silver leaf is applied to the surface and then covered with a transparent or colored overglaze before firing. The glaze keeps the silver from tarnishing and gives a soft, refined, contemporary luster.

The process produces a soft, lustrous silver surface with a quiet, dreamlike atmosphere. The transparent glaze over the silver leaf creates gentle color gradations and a restrained shimmer.
