Rosanjin 魯山人
Kitaoji Rosanjin (1883–1959) was a Japanese restaurateur, ceramicist, and creative visionary known for his philosophy that "tableware is the kimono of cuisine." He operated an exclusive haute cuisine restaurant, sourcing ingredients from across Japan, and created ceramics that emphasized the harmony of food, tableware, flowers, and surrounding space.
Rosanjin's work integrates the presentation of food with the vessels that hold it. His ceramic designs, including motifs such as camellia, are reinterpreted by contemporary kilns and reflect his approach to beauty as emerging through the relationship between objects rather than from a single piece.
