Sayagata 紗綾形

Sayagata is a continuous geometric pattern formed by a diagonal overlay of the Sanskrit character for manji (Buddhist cross). It is an auspicious pattern symbolizing prosperity and longevity of a family, with a history dating back to the Edo period in Japan.

Sayagata appears on kimono fabrics, aluminum serving trays, and as decoration on Kutani ware ceramics. The pattern is often used alongside other auspicious motifs such as seigaiha waves and plum blossoms.
