A beautiful Kyo ware matcha bowl chawan adorned with the elegant combination of sakura (cherry blossoms) and a golden half moon.
The blossoms of the sakura can be seen in all their splendor during the spring season. Sakura trees burst forth with an abundance of captivating white or pink petals. Enjoy the lightness of the petals fluttering in the night air under a golden half moon.
The designs are hand painted by an artisan at Tanaka Toubou one by one which is a characteristic of Kyo ware. The petals of the sakura are elegantly drawn in a light red and a vivid white outlined in exquisite gold paint.
At the foot of "Fushimi Inari Taisha" Shrine, Tanaka Toubou has been open for 35 years. The artisans at Tanaka Toubou, Nobuo and Michiko Tanaka specialize in creating unique tea ceremony utensils and daily-use tablewares.
Nobuo principally creates glazed ware with a black "tenmoku" glaze that includes at least five percent iron. Meanwhile, Michiko's works capture the essence of each season along with gentle depictions of plants and animals which give an emotional connection to those who admire them.
