Sakura and Moon Matcha Bowl
Estimated Shipping Widget will be displayed here!
A beautiful Kyo ware matcha bowl chawan adorned with the elegant combination of pink sakura (cherry blossoms) and a golden full moon.
The blossoms of the sakura can be seen in all their splendor during the spring season. Sakura trees burst forth with an abundance of captivating pink petals. Those lovely cherry blossoms extend to the inner surface, where the petals appear to dance gracefully in the air. Enjoy the lightness of the petals fluttering in the night air under a golden full moon.
The designs are hand-painted by an artisan at Tanaka Toubou one by one which is a characteristic of Kyo ware. The petals are painted in gentle shades of pink, with elegant gold accents.

Maker / Brand
At the foot of Kyoto's Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, Tanaka Toubou is the kiln of artisans Tanaka Nobuo and Tanaka Michiko. In operation for 35 years, they specialize in creating unique tea ceremony utensils and daily-use tableware.
Nobuo principally creates glazed ware with a black tenmoku glaze that includes at least five percent iron. Meanwhile, Michiko's work captures the essence of each season along with gentle depictions of plants and animals, creating an emotional connection to those who admire them.

Crafts
Kyo ware and Kiyomizu ware, collectively known as Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki, are celebrated pottery styles from Kyoto. Known for their vibrant designs, finely sculpted forms, and dedication to handcrafted detail, these wares reflect Kyoto’s distinctive sense of beauty and artistic refinement.
Defined by a long-cultivated diversity, Kyo ware and Kiyomizu ware have drawn on techniques and styles from pottery traditions across Japan, evolving into a richly expressive and distinctly Kyoto art form. Recognized as a Traditional Craft of Japan in 1977, they continue to be cherished for their cultural depth and everyday appeal.
