White Cream Gradient Matcha Bowl
Estimated Shipping Widget will be displayed here!
This matcha bowl features a soft gradation from white to cream with a smooth texture and elegant presence that enhances both tea ceremonies and everyday tea moments.
Crafted from hime-tsuchi, a fine-grained clay known for its delicate texture, the bowl has a warm, slightly yellowish tone rather than a stark white. It is finished with a wood ash glaze (dobaiyu), which interacts with the clay during firing to produce gentle color variations. Subtle differences in kiln temperature and placement result in one-of-a-kind expressions in each piece.
Fine crackles known as kannyu add visual depth to the surface. As with Hagi ware, the bowl’s color and texture will gradually change with continued use—a phenomenon known as the “seven transformations” of Hagi ware or Hagi no nanabake.
Sized to be gently cradled in both palms, this bowl offers a comfortable, easy-to-use shape that is ideal for beginners as well as seasoned tea drinkers.
Packaged in a gift box, it also makes a thoughtful and refined present.

Crafts
Hagi ware is a traditional Japanese pottery produced mainly in Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Known for its soft, earthy appearance and subtle textures, it is valued for the way it reveals the natural character of the locally-sourced clay. The slightly porous body retains warmth and absorbs a trace of the liquids it holds, gradually shaping the vessel’s surface and tone through years of use.
Beloved by generations of tea masters, Hagi ware has long been celebrated alongside Raku and Karatsu in the saying, “First Raku, second Hagi, third Karatsu.” Its quiet, unpretentious beauty continues to inspire both practitioners of the tea ceremony and admirers of Japanese ceramics worldwide.
