Sazameku Cascade Green and Platinum
Layers of green cover the upper half of this hand-shaped piece, ranging from blue-green to deeper tones as they move along the uneven form. White trails run through the color in broad, irregular lines, descending toward the platinum-hued foot. Along the rim, the green becomes thinner and brighter, following each rise and dip in the edge.
Yamaura Saori builds the color through repeated applications and firings of wa-enogu, glass-based pigments used in Kutani ware. The white is added in the final stages and allowed to melt in the kiln. Here, it forms pronounced bands and rounded drips, with areas of green left open between them.
Below, the decoration gives way to a textured platinum-colored finish on stoneware. The boundary between the two is uneven: green and white descend to different lengths, at times stopping short and elsewhere reaching farther toward the metallic surface.

Crafts
Kutani ware is a pottery produced in the Kaga region of Ishikawa Prefecture, with a history spanning over 350 years. It is characterized by the heavy brilliance of the five colors of navy blue, red, purple, green, and yellow that are applied to the bold and daring lines. Its long history has evolved through the tireless efforts and enthusiasm of people who have sought innovation while maintaining tradition.
