Also known as overglaze painting

Uwa-etsuke is a decorative process applied to ceramics after the final firing. Overglaze pigments are painted onto the already-glazed surface to create vivid colors such as red, yellow, green, or gold.

Because the decoration sits on top of the glaze, it allows for intricate details and bright colors that would not survive the high temperatures of the main glaze firing.
