Description

Hundreds of years of skill and technique are carefully crafted in this hand-size kobachi small bowl in wine red. The design is arranged with traditional auspicious patterns, making the tableware suitable for the modern dining scene.

The sides of the bowl are shaped like the petals of a flower giving the bowl an elegant look. Items with distinctive curves such as this bowl are made by first making a base by pressure casting and then carved by skilled craftsman to give the final refined touch.

The inside is decorated with traditional Japanese motifs. The bamboos represent strength, the Japanese pampas grass represent vitality and the peonies are meant to cast off evil spirits.

Kobachi Small Bowls

Kobachi, literally “small bowls” in Japanese, are designed for serving appetizers and side dishes. Deeper than a small plate but smaller than a main course or ramen bowl, kobachi are just the right size for light stews and simmered vegetables. Incorporating one or several kobachi bowls into a table setting and arranging dishes of different sizes and colors lends your meal an authentic Japanese atmosphere.

This category includes bowls with diameters under 12.9 cm (5.1 in).

Kacho: Flowers & Birds

The combination of flowers and birds, known in Japanese as kacho, is a very elegant motif popular in Japanese art. It often makes an appearance on kimono and textiles, as well as in maki-e lacquerware and other crafts.

These motifs combine Japanese plants, such as pine, bamboo, and plum, paired with auspicious birds such as cranes, peacocks, and Japanese nightingale.

The beautiful flower and bird patterns are impressive, and would make a great gift for someone special. Try choosing a combination of flowers and birds appropriate to the season to enjoy the many wonders of nature.
