Description

A stunning hand-painted arabesque design is rendered in brilliant blue over the sturdy white porcelain of this large donburi bowl. The signature tsuketate technique, where each stroke is applied in a single motion without outlines, enhances the flowing, dynamic pattern.

Tobe ware is porcelain produced in the Tobe region of Ehime Prefecture, located in the northwest of Shikoku Island. The white porcelain, with its beautiful, slightly bluish hue from the iron content, continues to be highly valued and loved.

The bowl’s robust build makes it resistant to breakage and suitable for both microwave and dishwasher use. Its excellent heat retention and flared rim are perfect for serving ramen, udon, and soba.

Baizan Kiln, the oldest existing kiln in Tobe City, Ehime Prefecture, is cherished for its creations featuring simple yet dynamic brushstrokes and a sturdy, robust form. Its warm white porcelain pieces are adorned with deep indigo and colorful patterns, and their thick, solid shapes evoke a sense of unpretentious, wholesome beauty.
