Description

This chawanmushi bowl is decorated with simple blue brushwork, painted in deep indigo using natural gosu pigment. The rich blue stands out against the muted gray-white clay body, bringing a rustic warmth to its gently rounded form. The softly curved sides and neatly fitted lid create a balanced silhouette.

Thick and pleasantly weighty in the hand, it has a reassuring sense of solidity. The maker's mark is delicately impressed on both the base and the inside of the lid.

Crafted by the artisans of Omi Shimoda Toubou in Shiga Prefecture, each bowl is shaped, painted, and fired entirely by hand within the sole workshop still carrying on this tradition. Born as everyday tableware for the region, it reflects the beauty and honest craftsmanship that have long defined the pottery.
