Blue Gradient Morikin Shirochibu Weeping Sakura

This blue gradient piece brings together the techniques of morikin “raised gold” and shirochibu “white dots” atop Kutani ware. A special mottled effect creates a gradation across the blue ground, forming the background for the weeping cherry blossoms. Finely applied white dots form a swirling pattern across the surface, adding depth and texture.

The weeping sakura branches are rendered in gold using morikin, which creates a raised effect by layering gold over a bengara red underlayer. The warm gold contrasts with the blue ground, creating an interplay of color and metallic sheen. The shifting blue tones suggest a sky behind the blossoms.

The shirochibu technique is characterized by the meticulous application of tiny white dots. Each dot is carefully placed to create a finely textured surface. Against the blue ground, the white texture contrasts with the gold decoration.

The use of the gradient technique makes this piece unique, as the color shift varies naturally with each application and cannot be reproduced in exactly the same way.
