Fan-Shaped Motif with Mt. Fuji Sauce Plate

This sauce plate features fan-shaped motifs alongside an iconic depiction of Mount Fuji. In Japanese culture, the fan motif is regarded as an auspicious symbol that heralds both prosperity and the arrival of good fortune.

The technique displayed in this plate is called somenishiki where the plate is first glazed with white and blue patterns and then is further decorated with detailed hand-painted drawings.

Yozan Kiln

Located in Ureshino City, Saga Prefecture, Yozan Kiln is known for its Hizen-Yoshida ware, boasting a rich heritage dating back to the Ansei era (1854–1860 CE). For generations, the kiln has faithfully preserved and refined its traditional techniques.

Hizen Yoshida ware originates from the historic Hizen region, now known as Saga and Nagasaki Prefectures. Its history began in Ureshino City, Saga Prefecture, where Japan's first porcelain stone was discovered in Yoshida Village in 1577—a pivotal milestone in Japanese ceramic history.

Flourishing during the Edo period (1603–1868 CE), it developed alongside Arita ware but evolved its own identity. 

Today, around ten kilns continue this tradition, creating versatile ceramics that merge historical depth with modern functionality. Whether for everyday use or special occasions, Hizen Yoshida ware brings enduring elegance and warmth to contemporary life.
