This Echizen lacquerware soup bowl, born from a collaboration with the Aizu lacquerware manufacturer YAMAKYU Japanware Co., captivates with its rich lacquer surface, beautifully showcasing a gourd design.
Golden gourds, intertwined with graceful leaves and vines, are brought to life through the traditional maki-e technique, hand-painted lacquer designs adorned with shimmering gold leaf.
A final coating of transparent lacquer over the maki-e then receives a meticulous polish to amplify the beautiful glossiness and color of the soup bowl. Enjoy the deepening luster of the natural lacquer over time, as you nurture this piece in your hands.
The gourd, a deeply respected motif in Japanese culture symbolizing good health, and abundance, not only enhances the visual allure of this piece but also enriches it with profound cultural significance.
This bowl is ideally suited for a variety of soup dishes, from hearty daily servings of miso soup to the celebratory zouni soup enjoyed during New Year festivities.
