Description

All five color variations of this hanazume floral mug are equally elegant and playful, each contains a meadow of colorful flowers delicately outlined in gold. Do you prefer pale pink hues, a touch of cool blue, or maybe a subtle green? Are you in an optimistic orange mood or does a pensive gray suit you best? Gold on the handle and rim elevates the design and matches perfectly with the gold accents in the pattern.

As a representative technique of Kutani ware, hanazume literally translates to “filled with flowers.” It is characterized by a multi-seasonal variety of traditional Japanese flowers laid out over the entire surface of the piece in brilliant hues and outlined in gold. The technique is said to have been introduced by Mizuta Shiro in Kanazawa City during the Taisho period (1912 CE–1926 CE).

Adorned with a dense and vibrant flower motif featuring traditional Japanese seasonal flowers, such as spring peonies and autumn chrysanthemums, the design is not limited to any specific season. It invites you to enjoy the floral fanfare no matter what time of the year you choose to savor a sip of hot tea.

The glittering charm of these mugs is incredibly versatile and ideal for daily use, whether with a creamy coffee on a sunny afternoon or a relaxing tea on a lamplit evening. You can choose your favorite color for your own personal use, or collect several mugs to give your family or house guests the enjoyment of selecting a mug that suits their mood.

Kutani Hanazume

Hanazume is a classic technique in Kutani ware, where flowers are intricately drawn across the entire surface. After the first firing, detailed floral designs are outlined with gold paint before the final firing. This decorative method, introduced by Mizuta Shiro in Kanazawa City during the Taisho period (1912 CE–1926 CE), beautifully combines vibrant flowers with elegant gold to create a stunning piece.
