Description

The beauty of the detailed handcrafting of Suruga Bamboo Basketry can be felt in this basket. The surface of the lid is made of bamboo weaving with a combination of star and hexagonal patterns, and the reverse side is made of very thin bamboo strips woven into a herringbone-like pattern.

It can be used as a box for wrapped sweets or to hold sake cups or teacups. It also makes an excellent decorative piece to store your favorite accessories enhancing your interior decor.

Suruga Bamboo Basketry is renowned for its exceptional delicacy in bamboo crafts, artfully assembled using thin, round bamboo strips. Elevating the artistry even further, a single craftsperson meticulously arranges these bamboo strips, one by one. The resulting piece showcases the craft's finesse, characterized by moist, smooth, and delicate curves that evoke a tranquil and gentle ambiance.

Please wipe off dust and dirt with a soft brush and a well-wrung dish towel. Do not wash it in water or hot water. Use in a dry, well-ventilated place to enhance the natural luster unique to bamboo.

Suruga Bamboo Basketry is a traditional bamboo craft with a history of over 400 years, made in the area around Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture. It was designated a national traditional craft in 1976.
