A set of three pairs of chopsticks with a "Awaji" knot motif Mizuhiki together.

These chopsticks made of Yoshino cedar, are light and easy to hold, and can be washed and used again and again. They are also thin at both ends, so you can pick up food on either side.

It is perfect for use during celebrations such as New Year's and when inviting guests over.

Mizuhiki is a decorative string that ties a monetary envelope or gift wrapping paper. It is a traditional Japanese cultural element that has its own meaning depending on the number of strings, color, and the way they are tied. The orderly beauty of mizuhiki never goes out of style, and it is also incorporated into tableware as a motif of good fortune.

The "Awaji" knot is also known as the abalone knot because of its resemblance to the shape of an abalone shell. When both ends are pulled, the knot is strongly tied, which is thought to mean long-lasting relationship. It is the basic knot for all good and bad luck, including Shinto and Buddhist rituals.

*Please note that Mizuhiki is not waterproofed in order to take advantage of its texture. It is made by wrapping thread around twisted paper. If it gets dirty, please wipe it off with a cloth or tissue paper after use.

Hirohashi was founded in 1986 by Mikihiro Hirohashi, a temple carpenter, in his hometown of Yoshino, Nara Prefecture. The second generation, Makiko Nakaiso, inherited her father's passion and launched a new brand of chopsticks. The natural wood used is mainly Yoshino cedar, which is 60 to 100 years old. The original texture, aroma, and grain of the wood are the characteristics of the uncoated finish.
