A lovely Edo Kimekomi cat doll with a high technique of craftsmanship made by Kakinuma Ningyo. Pastel yellow damask fabric with a faintly detailed pattern is used on the doll. The cat's clear eyes and hands clasped in front of the chest look as if it wishes upon a star in the night sky.
Edo Kimekomi dolls, which are said to have originated in Kyoto in the 18th century, have a unique Japanese technique of carving grooves into the prototype of the body and tacking the ends of fabrics into the grooves as they are dressed in costumes.
Dolls made with the kimekomi technique have a very sturdy body base. They do not roll or fall over when touched. They are highly stable and stands firmly on its own.
Today, they are still made by hand in the traditional way, and are designated as a traditional craft by the national government.
Kakinuma Ningyo is the manufacturer handling Edo Kimekomi Dolls founded in 1950. While pursuing a variety of original techniques, the studio has been eager to create innovative dolls that match the sense of beauty of the times.
You can also enjoy coordinating it with various interior items in your home. It is also eye-catching and cute to display several different types of lucky cats.
