This is a Hasami ware rice bowl made by Kousai Kiln. It is hand-painted to bring out the warm texture of the clay. The base of the rice bowl is finished in red with a green grape and leaf design.
The rough texture of the clay is coated with a glossy, bright glaze that offers different textures. The surface cracks seen on the inside are due to the traditional technique of kannyu (penetration), which allows the viewer to appreciate the beauty of the handwork.
Different colors of the same design are also available. They are slightly larger in size. You may purchase them together to make a pair gift or use them with your family.
Combining the Shigaraki style yakishime (high-fired unglazed ceramics) and the traditional somenishiki, his unique style is popular for its fusion of stoneware, which is relatively rare for Hasami ware, and the elegance of Kiyomizu Ware style. The unique motifs of the paintings, such as depictions of plants like flowers and grapes, and animals like cats and rabbits, make it fun to choose from a wide variety of pieces.

Crafts
Hasami ware is a traditional Japanese ceramic produced in Hasami Town, often called the "Town of Pottery," located in Nagasaki Prefecture, Kyushu. For over 400 years, it has been cherished as durable and practical tableware for everyday use.
It is known for its vibrant hand-painted designs on a pure white porcelain base—an iconic feature of Japanese porcelain. While Hasami ware continues to honor traditional patterns, artisans are constantly creating new designs that suit contemporary lifestyles, blending timeless beauty with modern functionality.
