Matsuba Tatami Igusa Japanese Rush Coaster
Estimated Shipping Widget will be displayed here!
These are stylish tatami coasters made from natural "Igusa" (Japanese rush) that you'll want to collect in various patterns. When held in your hand close to your face, by gently inhaling, you can enjoy a soothing, subtle scent, reminiscent of lying on a tatami mat in a traditional Japanese room.
The "tatami-beri" (tatami ribbon) fabric as an accent is a charming feature, incorporating traditional patterns such as cherry blossoms and hemp leaves into the design. Their mats are made from high-quality igusa that has been carefully cultivated by igusa farmers, and the weave is beautifully executed.
A water-repellent treatment has been applied, making these coasters versatile for holding glasses or tea cups, and they can even be used as decorative stands for a single flower vase, a figurine, or seasonal ornaments.
Because igusa is a natural material, there are individual differences in color and grain size. Please enjoy these as part of the charm of natural texture.
They are recommended as gifts for family, friends, and special ones.
Founded in 1977, the current owner, Sakae Matsuba, trained intensively for five years at a well-established tatami shop in Shizuoka City before setting up his own business in Yaizu City. In order to communicate the comfort of tatami, a traditional aspect of Japanese culture, he creates everyday goods and interior products using igusa and a fabric known as a "tatami-beri" (tatami ribbon), which resembles a belt and is attached to the edges of tatami mats.
