Memories of Colors Fuchsia Glow Perfume Bottle
In the Memories of Colors Fuchsia Glow Perfume Bottle, glass artist Otsuki Yosuke explores the possibilities of glass as a sculptural medium. Here, a vivid pink core glows like a gemstone through the transparent glass body. The perfume bottle’s simple silhouette is punctuated by rhythmic concave portholes. The resulting refraction effect seems to multiply the pink interior of the vessel. Each shift in viewing angle reveals a new aspect of the piece, inviting the viewer to interact with and participate in the work itself.
Combining a diverse range of glass techniques, from blown and cut glass to his signature technique of multilayered glass, Otsuki enfolds his own memories within each of his pieces, connecting them with the universal workings of nature to create something quietly profound. Captivated by the ability of glass to persist for hundreds of years, this work embodies Otsuki’s desire to capture colors within glass so that they may remain undimmed forever.
Accompanying the body of the piece is a precisely-fitted stopper of multilayered glass. Gentle blues and purples contrast with the vivid pink of the interior. These colors subtly interact with one another, blending and separating as the perspective shifts to create an increasingly layered visual experience.
A meditation on how memories are captured, this piece goes beyond its role as a vessel, bringing moments of looking and introspection that are as vibrant and playful as they are deep.
