Morikin Aochibu Left-Facing Persian Cat Figurine
Seated upright with its head slightly inclined to the left, this Persian cat carries a natural poise. Across its deep black surface, red and white plum blossoms and cherry blossoms spread among raised gold and platinum details, rendered through morikin and hakkinmori. Countless fine aochibu “blue dots” gather and disperse over the body, their shifting density drawing the eye around the cat’s curved form. A shippo pattern of interlocking circles in platinum fills the inside of the ears.
Created by artist Nakada Kingyoku, the piece reflects a style of intricate surface decoration developed across three generations of the Kingyoku name. Here, that visual language appears on an unexpected sculptural form.
The work is presented with a display base and a wooden name plaque.
