Brown Water Plant Mug

This stoneware mug from Musashi Kiln features the elegant motif of water plants accented with splashes of brown. This motif is a hallmark of Yashichida Oribe ware, characterized by its green glaze and abstract brushstrokes. 

Its rounded shape offers ample capacity and a comfortable thickness. The surface features a harmonious blend of an earthy texture and natural hues. The glossy, translucent green glaze imparts a rich and bold appearance.

Inspired by the natural world, Tsujii Musashi imbues his creations with a subtle, rustic beauty. The rokurome, or potter's wheel marks, give a rhythmic texture to the sides of the mug.

Musashi Kiln

Specializing in the creation of Mino ware, Tsujii Musashi established Musashi Kiln in 2006 in Mizunami City, Gifu Prefecture. While crafting his unique pottery, he also engages in agricultural activities, drawing inspiration for his designs from nature. Elements such as wheat and aquatic plants are incorporated into his patterns. The tableware he creates offers a natural and comfortable sensation, both in its appearance and its texture.

Crafted in the Tono region of Gifu Prefecture, Mino ware is celebrated for its rich heritage and versatility among Japanese ceramics.

A defining feature of Mino ware is its remarkable variety. Unlike many other Japanese pottery that adheres to a singular style, Mino ware boasts more than fifteen different styles, each with its unique charm developed over centuries. This region now accounts for over 50 percent of Japan's ceramic production, highlighting its unrivaled popularity.

In recognition of its cultural significance, Mino ware was designated as a traditional craft in 1978. Mino ware continues to enchant with its blend of historical depth and contemporary relevance, truly embodying a high standard of craftsmanship.
