Only 29 pieces in stock!

A chic lacquered dessert spoon by Yatsuyanagi. The handle is made of wild cherry bark work and painted with a golden cherry blossom motif. Although small, the combination of different traditional techniques gives it a sophisticated appearance.

The 14cm(5.5in) size is suitable as a dessert spoon.

Perfect for creating a traditional Japanese atmosphere at the table where Chawanmushi(Japanese steamed egg custard), Tofu, soup, Anmitsu, pudding, ice cream, etc. are served.

The cherry trees used for Akita cherry bark work are mainly wild cherry trees from the Tohoku region, which grow in a harsh climate and are said to be beautiful and durable.

The cherry bark is carefully peeled off from the trunk and left to dry in the shade for a year or two to remove the moisture. Yatsuyanagi is committed to the preservation of sustainable nature and the coexistence and co-prosperity of nature and traditional crafts. They are also actively involved in planting wild cherry trees on fallow land.

Since its establishment in 1876, Yatsuyanagi has been engaged in the manufacture and sale of wild cherry bark work for generations in Kakunodate, Senboku City, Akita Prefecture, a place rich in nature. They are a manufacturer that puts their heart and soul into each and every product, using the high technology that has been handed down from generation to generation to create tools for daily life that are both easy to use and beautiful.

Beautiful and Perfectly Sized Dessert Spoon

This is truly a lovely spoon, feels light, works perfectly against glass and looks beautiful. The painted gold flower is an elegant touch. The spoon is a wonderful connection to both nature and the past and a reminder of the many uses the wild cherry birch provides for humanity. It is not often that a spoon can be connected to medieval archery, medicine and traditional means of staying healthy (thinking about the geta slippers the company continues to make).

Quality and care

The only thing more impressive than the quality and care put into making the beautiful items I received, was an attention to detail and thoughtfulness placed in packaging, wrapping, and providing by letter a deeper understanding of their craft and the meaning of the items. Musubi Kiln truly goes beyond by pouring their heartfelt passion into the entire customer experience.
