Description

This single-flower vase, created by Yatsuyanagi, is made of cherry bark work from Akita Prefecture and decorated with a cherry blossom motif. The shape of the vase is that of a traditional pail, making it a small but eye-catching design. The glossy brown cherry bark has a moist texture and beautiful luster.

The cherry trees used for Akita cherry bark work are mainly wild cherry trees from the Tohoku region, which grow in a harsh climate and are said to be beautiful and durable.

The cherry bark is carefully peeled off from the trunk and left to dry in the shade for a year or two to remove the moisture. Yatsuyanagi is committed to the preservation of sustainable nature and the coexistence and co-prosperity of nature and traditional crafts. They are also actively involved in planting wild cherry trees on fallow land.

Sakura

Japanese cherry blossoms, or sakura, are an iconic symbol of the spring season. Blooming at first bud by bud, then all at once, they drape Japan’s parks and avenues with delicate clouds of white and pink. Ephemeral, the blossoms fall quickly, reminding us to be in the moment and appreciate each day. Their beauty is celebrated across Japanese art and adorns traditional crafts. Discover the tableware and decor that will bring these graceful flowers into your own home.
